At the 7th grade Mini-Assembly, Mrs.Groh, Officer Jones, and Mr. Salto laid down the expectations, rules, and guidelines for the new 7th graders. Here's what they said:
Mrs. Groh: She said that when we are on school computers, we must be doing school work. We also should report all vandalized school equipment, such as keyboards and computer mouses. We also should tell a teacher if we accidently break school equipment, or if we see someone vandalize the school's equipment as well. We also should not share our computer passwords and we need to remember to log off the computers. In addition to this, we have to adhere to the dress code and we need to have personal hygiene (remember to put on deoderant, take showers, etc.) Finally, we need to take pride in our MyAccess prompts and our essays in class and at school; respect is also mandatory for our peers and staff.

All across the world people are join in and helping the world wide “Go Green” project. This includes “reduce, reuse, and recycling” many of your everyday things. Hawthorn Middle South is helping in this world wide effort. The homeroom representatives go down with their recycling bins and send all of the recycled material to _____, a successful recycling company that reuses your unwanted materials. You can help in this effort by recycling your very own papers that you do not want to keep, instead of throwing them away. All the papers that you throw away go into a land fill that is polluting out Earth and making the situation that we are in worse. We used to have to throw some of the waste into the oceans, so instead of having a clean and nice vacation beach, it is really polluted with people across the wold’s waste. To avoid having this situation more, recycle. Also, you can use these three simple tips:

Northwestern beats Depaul
This was a game to watch the game started off with switching off for the lead till the Northwestern wildcats broke away with a lead of six and then eight and then eventually eleven. This all turned around though as time went on Depaul gained back the lead in the last thirty-eight seconds. It was tied with thirty eight seconds to go and then Beth Marshall of the wildcats made a two pointer then broke away for a three this meant the cats were up by four with twenty –two seconds to go. There were lots of shots but none in with the last seconds to go then Brittany Orban got fouled and shot free throws. Brittany made one of the two free throws. The game ended with top scores from Kristen Cartwright with 13, Beth Marshall with 14, Brittany Orban with 7 and Meshia Reed with 7. The game ended with Northwestern winning with a score of 59 to 54. (Depaul is internationally ranked as NO.15)

The Dance Team last year was a blast! It is a great experience again this year especially because this year we can choreograph our own moves. Last year was fun too, except the coach made up most of the moves and some girls wanted to add some of their own ideas.
This year, since we have some experience, the coach is giving us dancers a chance to make up our own moves and see how it all turns out. We are almost done with our dance which is really cool because, we only have three more weeks left until we perform for the school.

Recently, I have just finished a wonderful book called, Stargirl. This story follows a seventeen year old boy named Leo, who is just trying to fit in. He lives in a normal town, goes to a normal school, and lives a pretty normal life. One day..... all that changes. Out of the blue, a new girl enrolls in Mica High School who has been home schooled all her life. Her name is Stargirl, and her idea of normal is a bit different than everybody else's. Stargirl floats throughout the school in her floor length skirt, and brightens everyone's day with her gigantic canvas bag with a hand painted sunflower on the front. At first the students of Mica High think nothing of Stargirl's erratic behavior. Little do they know that this mismatched young girl is about to shake the town of Mica up.

On Wednesday, November 4, 2009, both Hawthorn North and South bands had a concert at the Vernon Hills High School. While there, they played two songs together, lead by the director from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. They were followed by the high school who played several songs. As a treat for the audience, both Hawthorn bands and all of the high school bands played together in one mass band! They impressed everyone with three more songs, some known by the crowd.

My 6th grade Outdoor-Ed experience, in 2008, was interesting. No, that would be a huge understatement. Plenty of the stuff was fun, and I enjoyed every activity. However, those activities had the potential to be insane... and it was.
It was Outdoor-Ed. The only thing I wanted to do was get to school and leave. The bus was weird, because everyone was singing. Whether it was the Jonas Brothers or the Wonder Pets theme song, they were singing. Everyone who was awake got into it. It was hard for me to sing because, to be honest, I have no real solo singing skills. When I sang out loud, I turned some heads. Anyway, we finally got to Camp Henry Horner. I had been there before, so I knew the layout of the camp pretty well. We got split up by homeroom, and Mrs. Serlin's room went to Team Building first, where we threw a ball around and said stuff about ourselves. That was fun, except for the "team" part. But, we got through it. Turns out that insanity was a reoccuring theme in the Outdoor-Ed trip.
