Have you ever wondered whatever happened to Annemarie and Ellen, in the fasinating story,
- Number the Stars
If you've ever read the book, "Number the Stars", then this will be the article for you.
The author ends the story with the idea that Annemarie and Ellen will meet again. What would they say to each other? How would they act, how would they feel?
It had been years since they last met, in the gloom of the night, at Uncle Henrik's house. Annemarie felt as though Lise had come back, and the war was just a bad dream. But it was Ellen. Her hair wasn't in pigtails anymore, but instead it was now in a neatly shaped bun. From what Annemarie could see, her hair was much longer and curly. Seeing Ellen made Annemarie wish she had done her hair too.
During the whole time, Ellen had been keeping a straight face. She felt fidgity seeing Annemarie, even though they both were so very happy to see each other again.
"Papa fixed your necklace", Annemarie said, finally breaking the helpless silence. It was only then that Ellen saw her, gleaming, Star of David necklace on Annemarie's neck. Suddenly, Annemarie embraced Ellen in a hug. "I knew you wouldn't break your promise," Annemairie said after they finally let go.
Just then Kirsti walked in, and when she saw Ellen, she started running towards her. But then, she abruptly stopped. "I knew you would come back," Kirsti whispered. Ellen hardly recognized Kirsti, she was so different and more mature.
As the girls chattered away, cheerfully, making sure to tell each other about every little detail of their lives. Then, Mrs. Johanson walked in with a box wrapped in colored paper, and handed it to Mrs. Rosen. She was standing there, watching the girls, with tears in her eyes. "I really thought I would never see this day," Mrs. Rosen said. Although the girls didn't understand, Mrs. Johanson did, right away.
