The International Club

Stasie C., Grade 6
Middle North

The International Club is great if you love learning new things internationally. It’s tons of fun and all the new facts we learn are always so fascinating, especially when you’re shocked to learn them. Sometimes a few people even bring in delicious food from their heritage, and share facts about the country where the food is originally from. If there is a holiday coming up, we learn a little about the event such as where it’s from and why they celebrate it. In October, we learned a bit about Halloween. We also had some people from the International Club do a skit for Halloween on the school news to share our knowledge with the entire school. This December we cut out small-table sized posters of Santa, a Christmas tree, and much more to display our cute Christmas cut-outs all over the school. Then, everyone will have a chance to learn about Christmas even if they don’t celebrate the holiday.
In other news, we just recently we had some delicious sushi from Korea, some more food from Russia, Sweden, Germany, and even more recently a member brought in fudge, and someone else brought in pie. International Club isn’t just about learning facts and eating different dishes, even though it might seem like so at first. You see, we are also a vital part in putting together the International Fair which is, as you may already know, a huge event. We help out and play one of the roles that our homerooms can’t fulfill, which means that there is a lot of planning to do. We are working hard trying to get some more people who are interested in joining, so they can be a part of our helpful team. We would be honored to have you and your friends in the club!
So, if you enjoy being a big help for your school, answer the following questions: Do you like trying out all sorts of different dishes from different places all around the world? Do you absolutely love learning facts that a lot of people don’t know? If that’s a “yes”, then that’s brilliant! You must see Miss Hawkinson right away, and ask to join the International Club. After you do that, you’ll be an official member. Yes, that’s right, “official”. All you have to do is come to room 205 on Tuesdays after school to join us in the fun that we have every week! We look forward to welcoming you to the team!
