"Bo" Commander in Leash!

Sloan P., grade 6
Middle North

The Obamas' got a dog shortly after moving into the White House. The dog was gift from Senator Ted Kennedy, who owns three dogs of the same breed (Portugese Water dogs) who are known for their high spirits and are said to be a good fit for kids with allergies (such as Malia.) They named their new Portugese Water dog "Bo" after Malia and Sasha's grandfather.
Bo's very goofy but Obama says that he has "star quality". Bo turned a year old on October 8th of this year. Bo gets a lot of special treatment living in the White House; he even gets to ride on Air Force One with the first family, and Marine One which is the presidential helicopter. Bo's favorite food is tomatoes and even though he is a "water dog", he does not yet know how to swim.
Dogs have been living in the White House for a long, long time. Even back when Abraham Lincoln was president! President Lincoln's two sons, Tad and Willie, had two dogs named Jip and Fido. Bo is the most famous dog in the country right now!
