Atheletes, are they really above the law?

In recent years athletes have been doing many stupid, and illegal, actions and they are just coming off with fines and comunity service. Look at Terry “Tank” Johnson, he had six illegal weapons in his house and he was still on probation yet he can still travels with the Bears. Johnson, was able to play on the worlds biggest game when he should have been in jail serving his time!

I am a Bears fan, but this was just too far. If he gets off with community service, he will prove that atheletes and stars really are above the law. In the past, there have been several cases of steroid abuse in baseball in which players abused performance enhancers to improve themselves. In my opinion, in basketball steroids isn't the problem. The basketball players have foul tempers. There are several occasions in which athletes have been suspended from games. Yet, almost none have gone to jail when they should have been charged with assault.
There have been several occasions with drugs as a source of problems and they get off with just a suspension. So if they are allowed to get away with just a suspenion and no time, what can't they do?
